July 30 (Bloomberg) -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced government plans to invest 1.8 billion reais ($1.1 billion) through 2011 to boost production of fish in the South American country, O Estado de S. Paulo reported.
Lula said the investments will aim to boost seafood output by 40 percent to 1.4 million metric tons per year, Estado reported. Brazil plans to map rivers and lakes and develop a better system of registering fishermen, the newspaper said.
