SAO PAULO, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Brazil's central bank sold about $1.68 billion in an auction of currency swaps on Thursday, rolling over a similar batch of paper maturing next month.
The bank sold 33,800 of 36,000 contracts on offer in the auction, extending the maturities coming due on Feb. 2.
Brazil's currency, the real BRBY, traded 0.26 percent stronger at 2.346 per dollar shortly after the auction.
The central bank resumed selling foreign exchange swaps in October 2008 after a two-year hiatus, one of several measures it has taken to add liquidity to the financial system. (Reporting by Jenifer Correa; Writing by Elzio Barreto; Editing by James Dalgleish)
